Description

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties, North Carolina (BGCDOC/The Club) was founded in the 1930s by locally prominent citizens and has since served over 5,000 children and teenagers. The Club provides after-school and summer camps programs at zero to low cost to all members. The Club owns one location in Durham and rents several locations in Chapel Hill. In 2019, the Club is planning a move to a new and larger building—doubling its programming space and more than doubling its membership over five years. TWG was brought in to develop a capacity-building plan and to conduct a campaign feasibility and readiness study. TWG recommended that the Club adopt a five-year financial forecast, assess its roster of programs, plan for staff growth and development, renew its governance policies, improve Club fundraising and communications functions, and begin planning for a Club-owned facility in Chapel Hill. TWG designed a $7.5 million fundraising campaign focused on BGCDOC’s three core needs: completing the facility purchase and build-out, developing programs, and reinforcing the Club’s long-range capital structure. We identified the sequence of investments, the needed campaign materials, prospective donors, and wrote the initial vision document for the campaign. We also demonstrated how BGCDOC’s annual support would grow alongside the campaign initiative.
