Founded in 1858, the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn have been an enduring educational force in New York and the eastern United States. Like many religious communities, the Brothers faced a rapidly retiring population and an associated decline in stipend revenue. TWG was engaged to develop a long-term business plan for the Community and to assemble an advisory board comprised of lay people to oversee the plan’s development and implementation. Based on the plan’s recommendations, the Brothers reorganized their investment portfolio and undertook a top-to-bottom analysis of their real estate holdings. TWG also helped to create and manage a new consortium of the educational institutions that had been founded by the congregation. This group was set up to explore creative approaches to funding the Community’s mission and to instill a greater sense of collaboration between the Bothers and the three Franciscan schools.
