Description

Founded in 2011, Griot Arts is a creative youth development organization in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Griot empowers at-risk youth to create positive change in their lives and their community through the arts. With support from the Walton Family Foundation, Griot engaged The Whelan Group (TWG) to develop a five-year strategic plan and to map out a sustainable growth strategy. The resulting plan refocused Griot’s mission and core messaging, established new art-focused curriculum priorities, and created a strategy for significant growth in enrollment. The plan included an earned income strategy—an innovative strategy that engaged in a retail enterprise that generated earned revenue for Griot.  The plan also offered a multi-year financial forecast that included critical capacity building measures needed to realize the organization’s strategic priorities.  In addition, TWG provided detailed guidance on board development and leadership initiatives to help Griot navigate the next phase of its growth and achieve its ambitious vision.
