Established by legendary choreographer George Balanchine in 1934, the School of American Ballet (SAB) is today the premier ballet academy in the United States. At a time when the school anticipated needing significant new resources, the president asked TWG to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the school’s fundraising and communication functions and to explore the feasibility of a major fundraising campaign. TWG’s plan recommended that SAB reorganize its development office and strengthen its fundraising management capacities in anticipation of a campaign. TWG then worked intensively with the president and campaign committee to create a major gift campaign focused on facility expansion—with a core objective of funding a new dance studio—and creating a series of endowed funds that helped to further diversify SAB’s sources of operating revenue. TWG was retained as the campaign consultant for the multiyear campaign, which raised $27.5 million.
