The Friends of the High Line (FHL) is the nonprofit caretaker of the High Line, the extraordinary public park located 30 feet above ground on abandoned elevated train tracks on New York City’s West Side. Early in its existence, FHL retained TWG to assist the founders, board, and staff with the ambitious challenge of creating a Public/Private Partnership and raising $50 million—the private sector share needed to complete Phase I of the project. TWG worked with the founders to define the case for support, package the gift opportunities for the project, set up the campaign’s core infrastructure, and develop the organization’s early financial strategy. TWG also orchestrated campaign visits with some of the most prominent corporate, civic, and philanthropic leaders in New York. Finally, TWG provided guidance and advice that helped FHL make the transition from an early start-up project to a sustainable institution with the overall responsibility for maintaining and operating this spectacular new park.
